To get students thinking more in depth about what they are learning and playing in class, some students wrote program notes to accompany the concert on May 6 (6:30 5/6 Bands, 7:30 Percussion Ensemble & 7/8 Bands-Be there or be square!). Here are a few words from the notes written to accompany the 8th grade music by Nathan. You will have to come to the concert to hear the whole thing!
Great work Nathan!

"Equinox" by Eric Osterling
Equinox is a very quirky little concert march, especially for us saxophones and clarinets at about measure 68- 98. You will see what I'm talking about in a few minutes, trust me. It kind of reminds me of a like theme song from the Smurfs! This song was fun, yet challenging.
"Howard Hanson Suite" by Howard Hanson, arr. Andrew Balent
First off, the composer, Howard Hanson was a very respected man in the field of music. He grew up playing the piano and then went to the Institute of Musical Art in New York when he was older, and earned a degree. My favorite part of the whole movement is that, at the end, we have a special set of notes called a "picardy-third"! I hope you all enjoy!
"Journey Down Niagara" by Christopher Tucker
Journey down Niagara is a very invigorating piece that is composed by Christopher Tucker. The song itself takes you on a hypothetical journey through Niagara Falls. I think you will understand once we begin playing... Even for us, the song is very amazing due to its fact that you can get lost in the illusion that you are at the falls.
